The Right Restlessness
caught a lite sneeze

TRUTH
So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.
2 Corinthians 4:16
REFLECTION
It’s time to stop messing around.
Restlessness is a gift to be handled with care but not ignored.
I’m quick to wait and see these days. I’m quick to stretch out the decision-making process on big things and small.
I like possibility. I enjoy the prospect of options. I don’t like being pigeonholed into one path.
But I also dislike the ambiguity of being lost out in the open fields of life.
For the most part, people will let me run in circles. All it takes is a hint of humor with half of the truth and I can justify inaction for a long time.
It doesn’t take much to get a co-signer for spiritual apathy.
Sometimes, the growth I need is right around the corner I continue to lean up against. Sometimes, I’m simply lazy.
Laziness will kill me though. It’s just a backslide in disguise. It’s a relapse waiting to happen, a poorly veiled excuse to not do the next right thing.
And when things aren’t clear, instead of twiddling my thumbs, I ought to do the next thing right until the path forward becomes clear.
I need more restlessness. I’m afraid of the comfort of inaction. I’m afraid of the acceptance of others that I can so readily craft for myself.
I want the nervous energy of the knowledge that I’m moving forward despite the uncertainty of the future.
I’d rather be uncomfortable and further along than dead.
God, give me more courage than I can handle without you.
