We’re back in the Psalms for this week!

Here’s our sixth verse of the year:

The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Psalm 27:1

You got this.

Reflection

Let us test and examine our ways, and return to the Lord!

Lamentations 3:40

Logic may not give us eyes to see as far as we’d like into our sober future, but reason should guide us as we repair our past.

We aren’t exempt from human decency and self-examination just because we’ve been through the wringer. On the contrary, we have more work to do than most.

The idea of a moral inventory is a scary prospect if we truly consider it. It's easy to dust our past under the rug and simply lean forward in the present.

This is a half-truth with teeth.

What good will it do us to ignore the very real harm we have done? We shouldn't dwell on this longer than necessary, but we should bring it into the light to conquer it.

It did me good to walk through my life with a friend, to share my shortcomings, my sins, my story with an understanding and empathetic man.

These things that lead to addiction need to be cast out, and we need to examine them with help to do that.

Our inventory and our story give us the means to move away from the wreckage of our past.

God, help me walk away from who I have been and acknowledge the extent of my need for a new life.
