Necessary quiet

TRUTH
He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.
Psalm 23:2 ESV
REFLECTION
Despite seeking rest and satisfaction, we rarely find it.
More often I spend a lot of mental energy looking around for the next fix of some sort that will land me in a place of contentment.
I looked for this through my active addiction, but I look for it still in stone cold sobriety.
We are constantly hunting arrival.
I want to get somewhere. I want to be at the destination. I want the fulfillment that can only come from completion.
This is entrenched in our makeup, but it is preemptive to think we will experience it on any given Tuesday.
This is an eternal yearning. We will enjoy it in due course, but we need a perspective shift while we’re still dealing with this mortal flesh.
It shouldn’t be hard to conclude that the things of the world have diminishing returns. This transcends chemical addiction where tolerance, desensitization and withdrawals are obvious.
It constantly takes more new things to enliven me in the same way that the first new things did.
This is the conundrum of filling a spiritual void with temporal stuff, though it doesn’t seem to prevent me from trying.
We are all looking for satisfaction, for the still waters of the soul, for restoration.
I wish I could dwell with Him more fully and more often.
God, quiet my mind.
