Truth
Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?
Romans 2:4
Reflection
I’m a professional double-standard generator.
Give me a rule that makes sense and I’ll give you an excuse for my corner-cutting.
Give me a lawbreaker and I’ll ink the death sentence while holding tightly to my well-formed exception.
I’m quick to see where the forgiveness of God should naturally come to play in my life, but I’m less inclined to read the context of the passages I pull those insights from.
I want the gift without the work; I want cleanliness without the shower.
In newfound sobriety, I stumbled on a fellowship of likeminded, similarity afflicted people who had found a way out of living like the dead.
I found laughter and freedom.
I found mentorship and friendship.
I found instruction and patience.
But importantly, I also found the desire to live differently. The desire to be changed.
This is a perpetual motion that comes from without us not within us.
This is the pneuma that goes over us and also into us.
Quite simply, by receiving the free gift of grace in this new way of life, we are energized and compelled to begin living differently.
Yes, our lives depend on it, but more so: we now want to do the next right things.
This is the snowball I want to be consumed by.
This is the avalanche God intended for life.
God, help me stay in the middle of your avalanche.
