Action

We’re memorizing one little bitty verse every week this year.

Here’s this week’s verse:

I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.

Psalm 119:11

Scripture memory is a purposeful action that has been instrumental in my faith walk for several years now.

Remember, we’ve got an entire 7 days to memorize one measly sentence.

This is easy.

Or, at least, it doesn’t have to be hard.

You got this.

Reflection

He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son.

Colossians 1:13

How weary the darkness becomes!

As I recall the days and nights spent seeking pleasure and my own way, they are marked by a growing darkness.

It creeps on us slowly at first. Only the hint of bad weather.

But as we complacently partake, it wraps us in a comfortable embrace.

And time goes by.

There is no need for chains.

Time simply compounds the weight of the cloud that muddies our perception, devours our morals and stretches us into a tenuous thread of self-centered emotion.

We break slowly but hopefully.

And in coming to during precious moments of clarity, the light is shocking, the realization of our fall staggering.

What a gift it is to turn from that domain and with his help begin to trudge into the light once more.

God, grant me the patience to pursue you today and the peace to walk away from the darkness that lunges after me.
