Alright is not enough

TRUTH
So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand.
Romans 7:21 ESV
REFLECTION
Living sober is easy till I have to do anything.
Getting sober is simple; it’s staying that way that ends up being impossible.
How many times do we resolve to do the right thing, to clean up our act, to abolish the past by renewing our hope in the present?
How many new daily planners and notebooks and journals have been filled with the honest desire to set things right?
I’m guilty of almost constantly thinking that if I just manage things well enough, it’ll be alright.
I’ll be alright. My calendar will be alright. My life will turn out alright.
I’m stuck in a perpetual undercutting of myself. We weren’t created to be alright. We are shooting at the wrong target.
Alright is for rodents.
We were made for more than just getting by.
We were made to get to the end of ourselves in order to find the beginning of a new way of life in Him who has the power to fuel us in perpetuity forever.
Literally forever.
We aim too small and when we do aim rightly, we rely on ourselves too much.
We’ve got to invite others into the battles with us. We’ve got to invite God into the driver’s seat.
I long to drive, but I’m supposed to be riding shotgun.
God, help me content myself in you alone.
