Do I Have to Talk?
...eventually yes
For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing,
2 Corinthians 2:15
REFLECTION
Do I have to say anything?
I wondered this when first exposed to recovery meetings.
There are meetings for every vice under the sun, but I found recovery and a way back to my faith in the old classic- AA.
Because I did qualify, and virtually everything they talked about applied to the solution to any addictive vice as far as I could tell.
But I was more worried about staying in my cocoon of self-pity than anything for a while.
Sharing in meetings was not required. Thank goodness.
Meetings are formatted and led differently everywhere, but there are so many now, everyone who needs one should be able to find one that vibes with their personality.
Not only was it not required to share, they actually encouraged me to just listen. To soak it up. Investigate.
We need help, otherwise we wouldn’t wind up in an AA meeting.
It’s ok to take from them for a while.
Thing is, eventually, when you actually start benefiting from them and feeling better and…dare I say, recovering…you will want to pass on what was freely given.
Eventually, the newly recovered person had the most valuable message in the room.
The newcomer wants to hear from you because you’re a step ahead of them instead of 20 years.
God, open my mouth to carry the message.
