Truth
But who are you, O man, to answer back to God? Will what is molded say to its molder, “Why have you made me like this?”
Romans 9:20
Reflection
The waves of fresh sobriety strike in much the same way every time:
Desperation brings willingness.
Willingness brings action.
Action brings discomfort.
Discomfort brings results.
Results bring hope.
Hope brings comfort.
Comfort brings complacency.
Complacency brings apathy.
Apathy brings worry.
Worry brings desperation…
It’s great when we can get through the cycle without picking up a drink, but many people do.
It’s even better when we can shorten the cycle by cutting out those areas that short circuit the very solution we’ve finally found.
Not everyone goes through these cycles.
Some seem eternally wedged into God’s design for their life. They couldn’t be dismayed if they tried.
Others seem perpetually stuck outside looking in but never truly willing to do what it takes to open the door.
Why?
Why did I get it?
Why do others fail?
It’s available to anyone right? Same with grace and salvation?
Bottom line: I’m not God.
The rest of Romans 9 sheds more light on this.
Be grateful for finding the way out. Be grateful for the opportunity of clean living. Be grateful for the friends along the way.
God, I’m not always sure of why I made it, but thank you.
