We always need more power

TRUTH
I cling to you; your right hand upholds me.
Psalms 63:8
REFLECTION
I have been sober and in recovery communities for over 22 years now.
I’m still not sure I’m 100% grateful for that.
I still regret bits of the past despite being promised otherwise.
I still drift into worry, remorse and morbid reflection from time to time.
I still have a tendency to skip a moment or a day here and there when I should be living one day at a time.
I still think of myself first. Often.
But God is good and gracious. Despite my failings, He has let me hold on to Him.
When my grip has weakened, He has held on to me.
I can think of no other explanation for my continued recovery.
The truth is simple: I can’t, He can, I think I’ll let Him.
In my weaknesses, I’ve grown accustomed to opening the word.
In my selfishness, I’ve grown accustomed to confession—sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly.
In my eagerness for progress, I’ve grown accustomed to the long path of patience.
In my drifting, I’ve grown more fearful of the dark seas than His hand on the rudder.
I’ve got a long way to go, but I’m grateful for what I’ve learned.
I’m thankful for the spiritual toolkit I’ve been given.
God, help me use the tools you’ve given me.
